Writing Articles To Earn Money Online In India

in Earn Money

If you have been looking to earn money online in India, the most frequently practiced and recommended option that you would have come across is probably somehow, somewhere centered around writing articles. Technically referred to as “generating content”, let’s take a look at whether it is a viable option for Indians to make money from.

The Job

In this section, we will discuss and understand what exactly the function of such a “content writer” would be. One thing is for certain, this job is performed online and remotely.

The Internet is a vast repository of information, knowledge, guides, music, videos, and pretty much everything else that you are looking to know more about. It also provides you the facility of shopping, banking, booking travel tickets, and a whole lot more. Now, while there is all that information out there, the problem still exists on how to present it. That’s where writing articles comes in.

Visit large sites like Wikipedia, eHOW, Indiatimes, or even the infamous Savita Bhabi – they all need written words. You can fulfill that need that millions of sites have by writing for them.

Functions

Now to consider the roles and responsibilities that such a writer would be expected to take on. First and foremost, since this is a freelance opportunity we are discussing, let’s make it clear that you are your own boss. The choice of finding, selecting, approaching, and performing for a writing assignment is completely on your shoulders. As a beginner in India, it’s important that you don’t loose track of what’s important when working online.

There are a few concepts that you really need to be well versed with. Understanding the basics of search engine optimization (SEO) is essential for you to be a successful content writer online if you want to make a sizable amount of money every month.

Your clients will enforce strict deadlines on you, which makes it important for you to gain speed in your first few weeks writing online. Many a times, you will find that the client will just provide you a certain subject (or keyword), around which you will be required to generate a certain number of articles. While it may sound quite foolish at first, it is important to understand that these articles are most probably just for the person to increase the incoming traffic on his/her website.

Earnings And Income

Writing articles to earn money online in India

Now this is where you need to distinguish yourself, especially as a beginner. As someone who is just starting out in the trade, it’s important to not expect wonders. Before you even approach a client, have at least 5 sample articles prepared on 5 different subjects.

The standard rate in the industry for the time being is around $5 for every 500 words. But truth be told, since there are a whole lot of Indian willing to work for lesser, it tends to get difficult off late to find such clients. Many of them would rather give you $3-4 for every article for around 450 words. Nevertheless, once you submit good work and form a good rapport, you can always ask for an increase.

It is quite easy for pretty much anybody to earn a good $300-400 in their first month itself. That’s about 18,000 Indian rupees! Not too bad for a beginner, eh? Try beginning your job anywhere just with a BA, and you will not earn anything more 10-15,000 measly Indian rupees.

What’s great about working freelance is that you can just do it part-time, if that’s to your liking. Some money on the side never really hurt anybody. Everybody from a school student, to a housewife can begin earning money sitting at home and putting some words together.

Tips To Make More Money Online

The thing about writing for the Internet is that there are already so many people out there that it has become difficult to make a decent living without programming skills. Well, to all of that, I say whatever.

What matters is that you need to understand how to do things the right way, and more importantly, the smart way. Take a look at these essential tips that will help you generate much more than your lifestyle:

  • Approach a client with respect, but don’t act like you are a slave. It is simply pathetic the way Indian writers portray themselves as lower in mind, body and soul to their employers. After speaking to a few of my foreign clients, it has come to my notice that not only is it annoying to them, they tend to respond at least 30% less than if you approach them professionally without much informal conversation.
  • It is the Internet, and you will come across some clients that do not want to pay up. The problem is that you can’t do much about it except publish the content for yourself, and thereby make it usable by him/her. You’ll find some places where you can publish these articles, and earn some money in the related posts below this article.
  • Never promise more than you know, or less that you are worth. That’s the golden rule of feeling good about your work, and making cash writing.
  • Begin learning about the basics of SEO from day one. If you want to be amongst the premium content developers online, it’s important to get a grasp of this skill as soon as possible. Contact me if you want some help, I’ll be more than happy to help.

What do you think are some of the essential tips to be a successful writer for the Internet? Let me know in the comments below. Also, let’s discuss your experience with writing articles to earn money online in India too.

Hi Raghunathan,

No problem, everybody has to begin somewhere. :)

A client in this context would be the person or organization that hires you to write articles for them. When working as a freelancer, this “client” could be anybody from around the world who needs articles for their websites, brochures, etc.

Let me know if you want a list of places where you can find these potential employers.

Glad you help you Raghunathan

Best of luck!

Political steering in Business World

From Raj Balakrishnans Desk

Politics are very bad in professional environment. But we can not get away from them. Handling the things in fair manner will always lead to satisfaction of colleagues. Even if someone plays politics we should be careful in tackling them. For example some colleagues may try to degrade your status so that they can overtake you. In such cases you should try to clear your status to the superiors and keep yourselves fair. Even if someone is playing games with you, you shouldn’t do it because politic players always face a hard time when their games are exposed and if you feel someone is playing with you then you should immediately report it to the superiors in assertive tone. If you just keep quiet then please realize that you are going to be the looser. And always keep a good relation with all of your colleagues despite how they are. Because only they will be successful both in profession and socially with whom their colleagues are happy.
The smart professional gets that the unofficial rules of politics can be more important than the formal rules and regulations. They know that decisions are rarely “fair” or “right” and that the decision makers have both personal and professional buttons that need to be pressed. They may not be the best at what they do but their connections and influence help them to climb up the career ladder over their purist colleagues.

Politicking is the act of scrutinizing business relationships and learning how to influence others more effectively. It means going through informal channels rather than officially sanctioned ones, and that isn’t necessarily bad. It does not have to be selfish. You can use your understanding of politics to influence people and achieve goals that are good for your company as well as yourself. Even in the most friendly and supportive of organizations, people don’t always agree. So having an understanding of politics and knowing how to exert influence can help you to pull people together and achieve outcomes that are in the organization’s best interests too. So Tell the truth all the time and be aware of your timing as well as who is in the room at the time. .

Alliances and relationships do not always trump good work and vice versa. You need both. Align yourself with people who should be aware of the quality of your work and your potential to make a positive contribution. Develop the skill of knowing who might not have your best interests at heart and develop a survival strategy. Identify your professional goals and develop strategies that support them. Work hard not to step on other people to obtain what is important to you. Be aware and prepare for the consequences of your actions. If the media followed you around at your job, would you be pleased with what they wrote about your words, your behavior and your actions? The best way to handle office politics is to allow your productivity to speak for you. During these economic times politics is far less important than actually contributing to the bottom-line. One way to stand out is by out performing others and being willing to take-on other projects at work that makes you visible to the decision-makers that may not know you, but could dictate how far you go within the firm. The problem with most office political environments is that they are based more on regimes than anything to do with the firm. If you align yourself too close to a manager etc. they may fall out of favor with the suits (executives), then you may appear tainted by his/her influence. You should establish your own unique professional brand within the organization that includes your personality, character, ethics, and work-habits.

What we do not want is negative politics or maneuvers that are harmful for the society or organization. Such maneuvers are the result of skewed understanding of the people, priorities, resources, environment or situation. To control and eliminate such negative politics, two important arrangements are necessary i.e. Establishing free flow and sharing of information, as maneuvers are basically manipulated presentation and interpretation of information. With free flow of information, manipulation in presentation and interpretation of information becomes difficult. Establishment of professional culture in the organization by professional culture I mean a culture where decisions are made based on facts, figure, data, information and scientific analysis; and not on personal whims, fancies, priorities, or similar unscientific beliefs.

I would not waste time trying to climb the mountain of office politics because there is a threat of spending too much of your time-capital there that could be better utilized within another organization or department. This is how many professionals wind up unhappy after twenty years of playing the game and getting nowhere professionally. There is some degree of politics that has to be played within any organization, but when it becomes just as demanding as your job, and then there may be deeper issues. Take notice of those who have played the game and look at how long they have played it and compare that to how far they have gone within the organization over their history in the firm. Are they political to advance within the organization or are they political to save their jobs? Just remember that politics can only take you so far and the game will be played whether you are there today or there tomorrow.

However as such arrangements limit power, influence and security of senior management professionals, many are not sincerely interested to implement.

Good day.

Regards

Raj Balakrishnan
