Question – How to start blogging? Answer – Far too many guides, instructions, how-to articles, and more….So what does one do? Figuring out the relevant from the ample trash present on the internet is a daunting task. You would go and read of the long, exhaustive guide available, or you could just keep it simple. In this post, I’ll keep it simple.
6 Steps To Kick-Start Your Blogging Career To Make Money
- Ignore the technicals
- Pick a subject you’re familiar with
- Don’t Waste Time Picking A Blogging Software
- Make A Blog Posts At This Very Moment!
- Practice makes perfect
- Lack Of Readership
Avoid reading about confusing subjects like RSS, Technorati and SEO in the beginning. The more you read about these confusing concepts in your first days, the more confused you will be. Avoid them for the timing, and you’ll get there in your own time.
It’s important that you write about a subject you know about. Don’t opt for subjects that are confusing to you, even if they do pay better. It’s important that you avoid falling for the money-trap of blogging when you’re just a beginner. Give it at least a month before you start looking at blogging as a full-time profession that pays well.
Pick a subject that interests you, something you’re passionate about. People will only read what you have to say if you present it in a unique voice. Take for example Barkha Dutt, who with her coverage of the Kargil War made Indian aware of the importance of journalists. It is a testament to her courage as a journalist, that women in Indian Army take her as an example of courage amongst the fairer sex. While everybody can’t be as effective, you can have a unique opinion without your own circles.
Ignore the many choices in blogging platforms that you can find online. Just choose between Blogger and TypePad. The reason I recommend them is for its simplicity. You can get started in literally 2 minutes! I myself use WordPress, about which I’ll go into detail later. Don’t worry about the options you select – everything is simple enough, and whatever you select can be easily changed.
We all would love to write the post tomorrow, but it’s important that you write on your blog today. Blogging is about saying something, being relevant and above all, discussion. It’s up to you to light a spark.
The importance of trying, trying and trying is essential to get your blogging career going. Making posts every day is difficult, but necessary. You need to try writing fresh, original and interesting posts as frequently as possible. Don’t worry if you don’t understand the various components of your blog at first, keep trying. You’ll get there soon.
It takes time for people to gain interest to read your posts. It’s advised that you visit other blogs and comment on other bloggers posts. Invite them to come back to your blog. It takes time, but stick with it – persistence pays for your blogging career.
