If you’re online, and trying to earn money in India, you would do well by recognizing the difference between a scam and the real deal. The cyberspace in India is populated with many less than honest individuals who would like nothing better than to swindle you of anything between 5000 rupees, to even 25,000 thousand rupees. Here’s how to protect yourself against online scams. Here are some essential tips to avoid online scams in India:
- Does The Website Lie About Itself In Search Results
When I typed “earn money” on Google, the first result is for a site called netjobs4all.com. Not take a look at the title description the owner of this website has provided:
Online Jobs.Earn Rs.50000/month.Part time Data Entry Jobs.
If you were to click on this result, you will be greeted with a webpage that is supposed to be a company offering jobs with a minimal salary of 5,ooo rupees. Would such a site really contain just half-a-page of content that is presented in the first person? This site is most definitely a scam, and we can say so by just looking at the promise of part-time jobs, which this site really doesn’t provide. It rather just tries to make you provide personal information.
If you really want to job portal, then naukri and monster are at least reliable choice. When somebody makes the claim of being a part-time jobs portal, it is always advisable to first judge whether their platform is safe and secure. A site that has a lot of Google Adsense ads is generally just trying to fool you.
- Check Their Legal Materials
Another good marker to recognize frauds on the Internet is to take a look at the “Terms & Condition”, “Privacy Policy” and “Disclaimer” for that particular site. You will generally find these towards the bottom right of the every page.
Upon going for the disclaimer on netjobs4all, I came across this line in the very end:
Get your own free disclaimer on-line here.
Now, do you really think a company who offers online jobs, wouldn’t have enough money to formulate their own disclaimer in consultation with a lawyer? Whoever is running this website has used a free service that provides ready-made disclaimers. For someone who claims to have helped many Indians with making money, it most definitely means that something is very suspicious – avoid it.
- Look Around For Customer Reviews
Amongst all the tips to distinguish between fraudsters and genuine offers to help you make money in India, this one can be the most complicated. The reason for this is that many of these dishonest parties tend to pay SEO firms to spread fake reviews praising their services and products. This a problem that one cannot avoid while surfing the Internet.
The best way to combat this problem is to either visit public forums, where you should ask a question and only accept answers for members who have been part of this forum for quite some time.
Another option is that you could always ask a query in the comments located at the end of this article, and I’ll be more than glad to look into it for you.
- Contact Your Potential Employers Over Phone, Or In-person
Before you decide to work for anybody you should always take their contact information. Give them a call, or if you can, pay them a visit in-person. If you don’t get a receptionist who answers you phone, assume that it’s a scam.
Any company that can afford to hire large number of individuals, should at least have a physical office in a commercial district, and of course a receptionist.
- Never Give Your Personal Information Anytime, Anywhere
This is old advice, but it is still very relevant. Avoid giving any information in any step unless sure of the authenticity. Details like your credit card number, mobile number, etc, should never be provided in any registration form when you still doubt the credibility of the service.
It is advisable that one first makes a fake profile, just to see the entire registration process. If it asks for unnecessary information, it is best to avoid considering the website.
Let me know about any questions you may have about how to avoid online scams in India. As always, keep reading for more information on how to earn money in India.
